About the book: (from publisher)
"From the New York Times bestselling author of To Desire a Devil comes this thrilling tale of danger, desire, and dark passions.
Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand-she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk . . .
Caire makes a simple offer-in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control--one that may well destroy them both."

Elizabeth Hoyt has a wonderful writing style that is bound to capture and transport you into the book. She caught my attention right away and I was totally captivated, finding myself still reading into the wee hours of the morning.
The story takes place in 1737 in London. The descriptions of the area and people are very believable and have a realistic feel. It is easy to get to know the main characters - they have a depth to them and each struggles with a dark secret. Temperance and Lord Caire are both very likable and I end up getting involved with them wanting each to finding a resolution to their past.
As much as I loved Hoyt's writing style, the sexual content was very descriptive and enough to make this old gal blush. I would have really enjoyed the book much more had it been toned down and not so "steamy". Since I have never read one of Hoyt's books before, maybe this is normal for her writing style.
Parental Note - This book is recommended FOR ADULTS ONLY. It contains strong and descriptive sexual scenes and themes.
